
In this TED Talk, Carol Dweck discusses the idea of growth mindset versus fixed mindset pertaining to young children in schools. Over and over, introducing a growth mindset to a struggling group of students significantly improves their learning capabilities. Being rewarded for the process of learning is substantially more effective than being rewarded for achievement.
To annotate, I highlighted key points I wanted to comment on and things I wanted to respond to. I drew a line from each highlight to its corresponding note in the margin. I made connections from previous experiences and asked questions that come to mind while reading. It was helpful for me to highlight so I knew exactly what part of the text I was making note of. Responding to the text as I read kept me engaged and solidified what I had read. I want to work on a method of annotation that helps me pull main ideas from texts, especially more difficult ones.
