My essay is going to be about the how transition from private school to public school affected the mindset I had about learning, and subsequently deterred me from learning how to write. I completed two prewriting activities: a cluster and a web. At the center of the cluster was the private school I attended for the first five years of my education, St. Francis. The idea of learning at St. Francis was largely based on a growth mindset. I wrote down a lot of things that came to mind when I thought about my education there. At the center of my web is the first teacher I had when I came to public school in fifth grade, Mrs. Carr. Branching off of her name are thoughts and memories about her, her class, and the classmates I had at that time. These two activities helped refresh my memory on the two very different learning environments I experienced and how the latter affected me.

My revision process for this essay was very different from revision I have done in the past. I took into consideration the comments from my peers and professor, and I revised a portion of my essay from those. I found these comments extremely helpful because I have never received so much feedback on a rough draft before. I found that I had a lot of time to restructure my essay a bit and make it exactly what I wanted it to be.
